bd's Mongolian Grill

bd's Mongolian Grill is the third largest Asian casual dining chain in the United States with 31 units. The concept is a create-your-own Asian stir fry, focused around a Mongolian flat-grill where each guest's dish is cooked right in front of them using their chosen ingredients.

Engagement Goals

Brookwood advised bd's Mongolian Grill on its sale to Kinderhook Industries, LLC.

Nature of the Assignment - Brookwood was hired by the company to explore strategic alternatives. The majority owner and CEO wanted liquidity and an equity partner to further expand the concept. Brookwood contacted both strategic buyers and private equity groups that had significant previous restaurant operating experience.

Excellent Result – Successfully sold the company to Kinderhook Industries, LLC in partnership with restaurant industry veterans. Brookwood structured the transaction to allow the seller to retain a minority stake in the company and remain Chief Executive Officer.
