When Mr. Winborne founded Brookwood in 1989, he saw an opportunity to address a market that was not adequately served by the major Wall Street firms: providing sophisticated services and a high level of attention to middle market companies. In recent years he and his partners have recognized that a larger scale firm can enhance Brookwood’s service to the middle market, so they have expanded the platform to include a greater number of talented bankers and increased experience in specific industries.

Prior to founding Brookwood, Mr. Winborne was a Vice President in Goldman Sachs & Co.'s investment banking group in New York. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Mr. Winborne worked in the investment banking group at Kidder, Peabody & Co.

Mr. Winborne has more than 25 years of experience in advising senior management teams, boards of directors and business owners on a variety of transactions, including exclusive sales, divestitures, acquisitions, recapitalizations, financings and bankruptcies. He has established a particularly strong record in fairness opinions, in representing special committees in complex corporate transactions and in representing foreign buyers in making acquisitions in the U.S. His industry experience includes business services, distribution, financial services, manufacturing, metals, paper and packaging, specialty retailing, software and textiles.

Mr. Winborne earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of North Carolina where he was a Morehead Scholar and graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School.

Mr. Winborne lives with his wife and six children in the Buckhead section of Atlanta, where he enjoys his involvement with his children’s schools, sports leagues and church activities. He is a member of the Board of Directors of St. Joseph's Hospital of Atlanta.
